The Festival du doré Baie-James is an annual event held since 1999 on the shores of Lac Opémiska in Chapais, located in the southern part of the administrative region of Northern Québec.
This event is the biggest walleye fishing tournament in Québec. It receives over 1,000 anglers yearly from all over Québec. In the recent years, participants from beyond province's borders discovered the festival.
In order to preserve exceptional fishing quality on Lac Opémiska and in a perspective of sustainable development, catch and release is mandatory during the tournament. However, nothing prevents you from keeping the fish you catch on the lake in non-tournament related activities in compliance with provincial regulations.
Fishers of all ages are invited to participate in the tournament which is divided into 2 main categories: amateur and professional.
The majority of the prizes in the amateur category are awarded randomly amongst the fishermen. Therefore, all participants, whatever their age, have a chance to win one of the numerous prizes.
For professionals, this 2-day PRO-VIP competition offers an incomparable experience. As a team, fishermen must use a strategic approach to accumulate as many points and as quickly as possible in order to win cash prizes, including the first position's $15,000 bursary.
The festival is 10 days of activities for the whole family!
Many shows are offered and free to attend!
