Assinica Wildlife Reserve is definitely one of the northernmost and wildest of all the wildlife reserves in the network. Located north of Oujé-Bougoumou Cree Nation, it is cut through by a river, the impetuous Broadback, and has many lakes. Because it lies within a large beaver reserve, beaver hunting is reserved for Aboriginal people, as is fishing for some fish species like whitefish and sturgeon.
The lakes Cachisca, Comencho, and Opataca are the most popular ones for walleye fishing. There is a rustic campground in an open area by Lac Cachisca. Elsewhere, rustic camping is permitted on the road right-of-way. No services.
